Eric F. Yuhl graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of California at San Diego in 1977.  He received his law degree from the University of San Diego, School of Law in June of 1981. He was immediately admitted to the California State Bar in 1981 and began his legal career with one of the largest and most prestigious firms in California at that time, Lillick McHose & Charles. The Lillick firm subsequently merged to become a part of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw & Pittman LLP.

Mr. Yuhl was a Trial Associate in the firm’s Litigation Department during which time he was trained in the handling of complex civil litigation cases spanning product liability, mass tort, maritime, and employment litigation. This early professional experience included the representation of Ford Motor Company and American Motor Company, spanning gas tank rupture to rollover and crashworthiness cases. Mr. Yuhl also developed expertise in handling federal maritime cases from the Jones Act to Longshore & Harbor Worker’s injury cases, in the process defending some of the largest shipping lines in the world and interfacing with insurance syndicates such as Lloyd’s of London. Mr. Yuhl also acquired early experience in the then-budding field of state and federal wrongful termination law, handling several cases for Lillick clients facing breach of employment contract, discharge and discrimination claims.

During his years with the Lillick firm, Mr. Yuhl was able to acquire a unique level of litigation and trial experience for a young attorney. He tried and won 12 jury trials, civil and criminal, in addition to handling over 20 arbitrations with an equally impressive track record of successes.

In 1985, Mr. Yuhl left the Lillick McHose & Charles and opened his own law firm in Santa Monica, California, and what ultimately proved to be the founding roots of Yuhl | Carr LLP. From 1985 to the present time, Mr. Yuhl has continued to specialize in the handling of complex personal injury cases, mass tort, consumer class action and sex abuse litigation. Employment and labor law also continues to be a significant part of Mr. Yuhl’s practice encompassing litigating and trying wrongful termination and discharge cases, both plaintiff and defense, as well as the negotiation of executive employment and severance agreements. Mr. Yuhl also handles a wide range of civil cases ranging from breach of contract and investor/partnership disputes to professional negligence and insurance bad faith. He has secured many multi-million dollar settlements, arbitration awards, and jury verdicts for his clients.

Mr. Yuhl and his “far better half” wife, Janet, reside in Del Mar, California. They are the proud parents of five amazing children. His eldest son Colin is a Partner in Yuhl Carr LLP. Daughters Lindsay and Taylor have successful careers in Human Resources and Education, respectively, and are the incredible mothers of Eric and Janet’s two grandchildren, Avery and Nixon. Second son Keegan is a professional baseball player with the Houston Astros organization, and the youngest Stuart is a full time student at California State University, San Marcos.

Eric is an avid athlete, hiker, surfer, reader, world traveler, fumbling guitarist, and happy grandparent.
